Scotland's National Emblem Quaich
There is a legend attached to the thorny thistle becoming Scotland's national emblem. Centuries ago, when Scotland was ravaged by Viking invaders, a group of Scots fighting men were resting overnight in a Glen. Unknown to them a Viking raiding party was watching them and biding time, awaiting to attack under cover of darkness. As night fell the Vikings approached the Scots camp in their bare feet and stood on a patch of prickly thistles. Their cries of pain awoke the slumbering Scots and the enemy was quickly defeated. From that day forth the Thistle was adopted as the National Emblem of Scotland.
This beautiful pewter quaich bears a badge of the Scottish thistle.
