Border
Riever
The superior protection afforded
by a sword-guard enclosing the hand became increasingly desirable
as the use of steel gauntlets declined during the 16th century and
makes this a very attractive reproduction for the cake cutting
ceremony.
Locally-made basket hilts were common in the Border Marches. Always eager for improved weaponry, these notorious border rievers were among the earliest warriors to embrace the new
design. It suited their lightly armed fighting style admirably,
and it quickly became the standard among border horsemen.

Medium
Claymore
This famous two handed battle
sword was used by Scottish clansmen for hundreds of years. The
Claymore was feared because of its strength and size. It was
the primary weapon used during the constant warfare that became
the way of life for the Scottish clans. Today, it stands as a
great symbol of Scottish heritage.
The earliest Scottish clansmen
were undoubtedly strong and fearless. They wielded large swords
with a simple yet powerful design. One of these legends was a man
named William Wallace, who carried an early Scottish claymore
sword just the same as this in battle. The claymore sword started with this
early design and predates the very recognisable “clover
design” of claymores later in history. This medium sword
has the same styling as the big claymores, but is scaled down for
use as a cutting cutting swords, though we can supply a mighty six
foot claymore if desired!
