St. Margaret's Chapel ~ Edinburgh Castle Wedding Cake

The beautifully preserved St. Margaret's Chapel is the oldest building in Edinburgh.  King David I built it as a private chapel for the Scottish royal family and dedicated it to his Mother, Margaret.

St. Margaret's Chapel measures only 5m x 3m and is a very beautiful venue for small weddings.

The chapel and cobbled areas of this Wedding cake are lemon flavoured, whilst Mon's Meg and the happy couple are made of sugar.

In front of  St. Margaret's chapel stands Mon's Meg, a six ton siege gun given to James II in 1457.  The stones it used weighed 150kg and when it was fired to celebrate the marriage of Mary Queen of Scots to the French Dauphin Francois in 1558. The castle authorities paid a gang of men to find and retrieve the cannonball from what is now the Edinburgh Botanical Gardens, two miles to the north.
